As an animal or person gets older, short genes begin to dominate this control code. Like the aging process itself, the transition to smaller transcriptomes starts early and proceeds gradually, affecting thousands of individual genes. This suggests that aging is a complex, systemic process that manifests itself immediately and everywhere, literally in all cells of the body.
